About Chiropractic
Chiropractic is based upon the premise that the body has the ability to self heal and self regulate provided it has a free flowing nervous system. The nervous system is the master control system which controls everything in the body. It originates from the brain, through the spinal cord to the peripheral nerves. Overall health, depends upon an uninterpreted nervous system. Interference to nervous system function and transmission of impulses can result from mechanical disorders of the spine.
The focus of chiropractic is on diagnosing, treating, and preventing these mechanical disorders. These disorders are referred to as subluxations or misalignments and can result from accidents, injuries, traumas, posture, stress, overuse etc. The resultant mechanical strain and nervous interference can cause pain, inflammation, muscle tightness and dis-ease which affects overall health.
The primary treatment method used by chiropractors is spinal manipulation. A controlled force is applied to the affected spinal joints in order to restore optimal spinal function and remove nervous interference. Once the interference is removed, pain is eliminated or reduced, mobility is improved and through self healing and self regulation, maximum function is returned.
